Born in Tarnaors, Hungary, Anna Torma gained her degree in textiles from the Hungarian University of Applied Arts in 1979. In her 30 years of professional visual art practice, Anna has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally in Europe, North America and Japan. Her exhibitions include Draw me a Garden, AGH Hamilton,ON and Halifax, NS in 2007,Thorough the eye of the needle,Owens Art Gallery, Sackville, NB in 2004, Anna Torma: Embroideries 2001-2002

She has received numerous awards and grants, most recently the Strathbutler Award from the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation, Canada Council Paris Studios Grant to the Cite Internationale des Arts, McColl Center Artist in Residence Program, Charlotte, NC, UNESCO Aschberg Foundation’s Bursary for a two months residency in Wiltz, Luxembourg, 2004 and Chalmers Art Fellowship, Ontario Art Council in 2002.
Anna Torma immigrated to Canada with her family in 1988. Now she lives and works in Baie Verte, New Brunswick.
