10:00 am: Panel on the Artist’s Resale Right, The Khyber
CARFAC is actively lobbying for an Artist Resale Right which would give visual artists five percent from the resale of their work. This would allow Canadian artists to share in the profits being made from their work and they do in 59 other countries world-wide. Learn why this right is important, and how it would benefit you. Speakers will include CARFAC National Director, April Britski, Wayne Boucher (Annapolis Royal Nova Scotia), and Alan Syliboy (Truro, Nova Scotia).

12:00 pm: Catered Lunch

1:30 pm: CARFAC National AGM, The Khyber
All current members of CARFAC are welcome and encouraged to attend. If you’re not a member yet, take this opportunity to join and find out more about what we have been up to in the last year.

4:00 pm: Artist Fee Panel, The Khyber
Since 1968, CARFAC has made recommendations on minimum fee payments that artists receive when their work is shown in a public gallery. These fees serve as the industry standard, and an agreement with the museum community on exhibition payments was negotiated in 2007. This panel will reflect on the further development of the fee schedule. Speakers will include artist and CARFAC National President, Gerald Beaulieu (Montague, PEI); Art Gallery of Nova Scotia director, Ray Cronin (Halifax); St. Mary’s University Art Gallery director, Robin Metcalfe (Halifax); Eyelevel Gallery director, Michael McCormack (Halifax); and VANS President and visual artist, Katie Belcher (Halifax).

7:30 pm: The Visual Arts Advocacy Award Presentation, Dalhousie Art Gallery
The Visual Arts Advocacy Award honours a professional artist from Nova Scotia, who has made a significant contribution as an advocate for the Canadian visual arts community. Past winners include Kim Ondaatje, Tony Urquhart, Marlene Creates, and Todd Janes.

10:00 am: Nova Scotia Lawyers for the Arts Information Session, The Khyber
This panel will touch on common legal issues that artists face and the options they have for assistance and representation. Panelists will speak about the advantages of representation through a copyright collective, what to do when your copyright is infringed, and information on the new Artists Legal Information Services clinic opening in Nova Scotia. Speakers include CARCC Executive Director Janice Seline, ALIS co-founder Daniel Pink and copyright lawyer Daniela Bassan.
