Job Call: Project Internship

CARFAC is looking to fill a Project Internship position in our National office in Ottawa.

Established in 1968, CARFAC is the national association for Canada’s visual artists. CARFAC defends artists’ economic and legal rights, and educates the public on fair dealing with artists.

This contract summer position is for 6 weeks, from July 20 to August 28. We offer 40 hours of employment/week with an hourly wage of $13.50 + 4% vacation pay.

Job description

The Project Intern will assist with several research and service evaluation projects. S/he will help update our Canadian Gallery Survey, which compiles information on the professional practices of public and private art galleries across Canada. S/he will survey venues about the terms and conditions that they offer artists when they apply for exhibitions, including whether they use contracts, pay artist fees, provide shipping and insurance, etc. Additionally, s/he will survey our members about the services they receive from us, and what kinds of services they want to see us develop. S/he will also assist with updating social media tools and messaging for our members and stakeholders.

Eligibility and qualifications

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age;
  • have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Additionally, we are looking for students who are studying in the field of fine arts, preferably visual or media art, arts administration, or art history. Applicants must have strong organizational skills and demonstrate a high attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities. The ideal applicant will be able to communicate effectively and fluently, orally and in writing, preferably in both English and French. The applicant should have experience working with databases such as Excel, and experience using Salesforce would be an asset. S/he should have experience using Facebook and Twitter.
