Renewal of the National Gallery of Canada Agreement, 2018-2022
To: Voting members of CARFAC
CARFAC and our Quebec partner, RAAV, are pleased to report the successful conclusion of negotiations with the National Gallery of Canada. We present to you, our members, the tentative agreement that was reached by our bargaining team on March 14, 2018.
Your negotiation committee consisted of Karl Beveridge, Artist and bargaining Co-chair, CARFAC; Pierre Tessier, Artist and Bargaining Co-chair, RAAV; David Yazbeck, Lawyer and CARFAC National Treasurer; April Britski, CARFAC National Executive Director; and Bernard Guérin, RAAV General Director. The Gallery was represented by Barry Fong, Lawyer and Bargaining Chair; Anne Eschapasse, Deputy Director, Exhibitions and Outreach; Julie Packham, Deputy Director, Administration and Chief Financial Officer; Ivan Parisien, Chief, Publications and Copyright; and Véronique Malouin, Copyright Manager.
CARFAC’s board of directors have reviewed the contents of the agreement, and we unanimously recommended to our members to ratify this scale agreement, negotiated under the federal Status of the Artist Act.
This tentative agreement requires a vote from you, our members. All CARFAC members, whether you have worked with the National Gallery or not, are encouraged to vote because: we want your input, a minimum voter turnout is required for the agreement to be valid, and this agreement is an example for other galleries as it relates to improved working conditions for artists.
The ratification of the Agreement with the National Gallery of Canada will be conducted by an electronic vote. Only current voting members of CARFAC will be entitled to vote. You will receive a link to the voting website no later than May 12, 2018 by email. You will have until May 28th to cast your vote.
All votes will be reviewed and counted by external scrutineers, and the results of the ratification will be announced on our website, and by email to members once they are finalized.
The proposed Scale Agreement and all relevant contract forms and fee schedules (Schedule A to D) are available below. For comparison, our current Scale Agreement is also available on our website. We will also host two webinars on May 8th, one in French at 1pm EST and one in English at 3 pm EST, where members can ask questions about the agreement. You will receive instructions to participate by email on May 7th.
