Visual Artists welcome Daniel Rumbolt as CARFAC’s new National President
We are pleased to announce that Daniel Rumbolt was appointed as the new National President and Spokesperson of CARFAC on October 5th.
From the northern peninsula of Ktaqmkuk, Daniel first joined CARFAC’s national board in 2018 as the VANL Rep for Newfoundland and Labrador, which he chaired from 2017 to 2021. He received his BFA from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, and his MFA in Studio Arts (Fibres and Material Practices) at Concordia University in Tiohtià:ke, Kanien’kehá:ka Nation (Montreal, Quebec). He is currently the Executive Director of the Anna Templeton Centre for Craft, Art, & Design. His multidisciplinary art practice is informed by his experiences being raised in coastal communities, and uses material manipulation to transform rural narrative into a tangible form.
After taking a break for a year, we are thrilled to welcome Daniel back, and to have his invaluable experience in guiding our organization. Daniel has always been committed to bridging the gap between us as a national organization and the local communities we represent. He valued visiting many provinces, planning networking events, and creating opportunities to see the impact of our work firsthand. He has also expressed pride in the collective work CARFAC has done with organizational partners, from the Indigenous Protocols for the Visual Arts, to advancing the Artist’s Resale Right, and the ongoing evolution of our Fee Schedule - all initiatives that continue to make a major impact on the lives of artists across the country. We are confident that his leadership will help us serve our community of artist members from coast to coast to coast.
We offer our sincere gratitude and appreciation to outgoing President, advocate, colleague and friend, Theresie Tungilik. Hailing from Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, Theresie was the first Inuit artist to serve in this role. She first joined CARFAC’s national board in 2017, becoming Vice-President in 2019, and President in 2023. Theresie has been integral to the important advances we have made, especially as a spokesperson for our Artist’s Resale Right campaign and through her contributions to CARFAC’s Indigenous Advisory Circle. We appreciate Theresie’s continued expertise and guidance in her new role as Past-President.
